UKIPO Renewal Fee Increases
The UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) is set to increase its renewal fees starting 1 April 2026. This marks the first rise for UK trade mark fees since 1998, and the first adjustment for patents and designs in several years.
Overview of Changes
Fees will increase by an average of 26% across patents, trade marks, and designs to address inflation and fund digital modernisation through the “One IPO” program.
Key Deadlines & Early Payment Options
To benefit from current lower rates, you must pay the renewal fee by 31 March 2026. You can pay in advance according to the following windows:
- Patents: Can be renewed up to 2 months in advance. This applies to patents with renewal dates in April or May 2026.
- Trade Marks & Designs: Can be renewed up to 6 months in advance. This applies to rights with renewal dates up to 30 September 2026.
Important Notes
- Late Renewals: If a renewal is paid late on or after 1 April 2026, the new late renewal fee will apply regardless of when the renewal was originally due.
